OK...I have to put my opinion in here about Jaime's. We used to eat there all the time, until my husband went into their kitchen to work on their ice machine. All I will say is...we will NEVER go back again. Not even for a margarita.
My faves in Austin:
Chuy's
Matt's El Rancho
Katz's Deli
Hut's
Hula Hut
Green Mesquite _________________ Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please. - Mark Twain |

We -really- want to make it. I've never seen a Stubb's show and My older sister (chameleongirl) has a couple times. (way back in the day). BUT the 20th is the day my little sister is due. So depending on when that baby gets here is how we will determine if we get to be there. Wish us luck! |

Since you are showing you are from california jodyism, i'd recommend against mexican food here too. Its tex mex and spicier and different than you'd expect... _________________ "Fall as you try to stand

Magnolia Cafe - South Congress -Gingerbread pancakes -When you're done walk around south congress and people watch and look at all the shops on SOCo. Before you leave the area, stop at the Trailer Park Eatery and go to the Hey Cupcake! trailer and pick up a couple of cupcakes the size of your head as a treat.
If you are hungry for a burger and I mean the best burger ever on 6th street is Camino El Casino - I recommend the blue cheese buffalo burger with a side of green chili fries.
(I told you all I am fat girl dying to get out!)
Frank is definitely awesome.
Get some Stubbs BBQ - if nothing else, just to say you did.
Across the street from Stubbs is Jaimes, my favorite mexican food here in Austin. I also like the Jaime's margarita, and by like I mean I would sleep with it if I could.
Flip Happy Crepes and Torchy's Tacos are a couple more trailer places that I love - they are in the SoFi area (south first)
If you like museums - there are tons of them downtown. I resommend the Children's museum just because it is awesome and Bob Bullock Texas Museum.
Shopping - the Doman is like Dallas if you like that sort of thing - I hate it.
If you like outdoors and just want a place to sit outside in the park - Zilker is beautiful - go to the sculpture and Japanese gardens.
That's all right now - I'll think of more.
I LOVE MY TOWN! |
Thank you so much Vynyl, I think I am going to have plenty to do during my long weekend in Austin now!!!
You Rock!

AGREED! Mexi food is my fave and damn we have every kind of "(fill in the blank) berto's" you can think of. But I must venture, spread my wings and see what TX has to offer... _________________

One of my sisters told me that the Blue Dahlia is really good. I'd like to try it out before we head home if we have time. _________________

Unless you are into eating Tripas, or Menudo, or Cabrito, or real Barbacoa, or Chapulines, on a regular basis. The fact is every region has their own specialties. I personally prefer Tex-Mex to a lot of "authentic" Mexican food. _________________ "I'd call him a sadistic, hippophilic necrophile, but that would be beating a dead horse."

I'd prefer the "good" or "authentic" Mexican or Tex Mex food that didin't include animal intestines or stomach. yeah - call me a wimp. _________________ I'd rather be....at a Blue October Concert |
