I've probably made a thread like this before, but it's been awhile, and I found a new song that reminds me of another song.

Here's my list (off the top of my head)

James reminds me of The Tourist by (a+)machines [Matt Noveskey wrote music for both songs, so this is not surprising].

Into the Ocean reminds me of The Promise by When in Rome. (some fans have also said it reminds them of a Depeche Mode song)

She's My Ride Home reminds me of Pictures of You and Just Like Heaven by The Cure.

Sound of Pulling Heaven Down reminds me of Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Yip Harburg (the first word only), and also of The Star Wars Song by Bill Murray.

Overweight reminds me of I Just Dropped In by Kenny Rogers

and here's the new one:

Royal Blue reminds me of Clocks by Coldplay.

Are there any songs that Blue October songs remind y'all of?

Ha, I agree with Sound of Pulling Heaven Down...it took me forever to not want to sing "over the rainbow..."

Maybe the foiled version but the old version--like after come in closer on AWAT.
I was pretty shocked when I heard what it had become on foiled. Confused

I know, I was expecting something similar to the AWAT version, and then I remember thinking, "woah, ok..." But I learned to like it as well as the other. I almost treat it as two different songs, because both can be appreciated.

18th floor balcony reminds me of any slow song by Dave Matthews.... I don't know how many people would agree with me on this one... but I think their voices sound very similiar....

There are many songs that I pick things up in that remind me of, or sound like they were influenced, by others.

Whenever I listen to older versions of "Balance Beam" I detect similarities with "How Soon is Now" by The Smiths (the background reverberation).

"Quiet Mind" and "Amazing" make me think of Pink Floyd....especially if you imagine a saxaphone playing the violin parts.

"Drilled a Wire" makes me think of NIN.

"Conversation Via Radio" makes me think of R.E.M. in a big way.

It is almost uncanny how much Justin sounds like Peter Gabriel in "Congratulations".

"She;s My Ride Home", "Darkest Side of Houston's Finest Day" and most definately, "The First Time" all remind me of The Cure.

That's enough for now.

Ditto on the Conversation Via Radio post! The first time my hubby & I heard that we were like, "whoaaaa, that sounds just like Michael Stype."

I'm not sure if I could pin it down to a specific song, but I always thought James had a kinda Janes Addiction sound to it.

I agree that Sound Of Pulling Heaven Down is pure Cure!

Yeah, there was a Smith's song that reminded me of Blue October, but I don't remember. I'll pull out my Smiths CDs this weekend and figure it out.

AMAZING HOW MANY PEOPLE AGREE WITH ME, PETER GABRIEL, PINK FLOYD A DEFINATE AND I THINK THAT HAS A LOT TO DO WITH THE VOCALS AND MUSIC. THEY HAVE A TRUE GIFT, AND THE MORE EXPOSURE THEY GET, I THINK THEY WILL BECOME ICONS LIKE FLOYD!

I agree with the past post about Peter Gabriel and The Cure... the other day I was driving and I had the CD in... and my boyfriend, who is about 5 years older than me (he's twenty-eight) said, "This song sounds like The Cure" and he doesn't know anything about Blue October's influences or anything.... he also said that their style reminds him of Pink Floyd too... another strange thing that he said given he knows nothing about the band... i'm not familiar with Pink Floyd or The Cure... but my boyfriend is a music fanatic... and given he is a few years older than me, it is funny how a few years can make a difference in regards to growing up with certain bands, t.v., etc... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
